MANILA, Philippines – The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has decided to restrict the access of businessman Nawat Itsaragrisil, the national director of Miss Universe Thailand, for the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 pageant. This decision comes after a heated exchange between Nawat and Miss Mexico candidate Fatima Bosch went viral.

The incident occurred on November 4, prior to a scheduled sashing ceremony. Nawat reportedly singled out Fatima Bosch for allegedly not complying with the local franchise’s promotional efforts. Reigning Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, along with Fatima and several other beauty queens, walked out of the room in response.

MUO quickly released a statement assuring that the 74th Miss Universe pageant would proceed as planned. Later, MUO President Raul Rocha, who is from Mexico, addressed the incident in a video statement. Speaking in Spanish with the flags of the United States, Mexico, Thailand, and Miss Universe in the background, Rocha expressed his support for the contestants.

The incident occurred on November 4, when Nawat allegedly confronted Fatima Bosch for not complying with promotional efforts. Rocha stated that Nawat “humiliated, insulted, and disrespected” Fatima, and committed “serious abuse” by calling on security to “intimidate, silence, and exclude her.”

“Nawat, you need to stop! Every woman in the world should be respected,” Rocha exclaimed, emphasizing that other candidates were also affected. “I will not allow any of them to be attacked or humiliated.”

Rocha postponed the Sashing Ceremony to avoid any interaction with Nawat, who he accused of seeking “a constant desire to be the center of attention” instead of allowing the beauty queens to shine.

As a result, Nawat’s participation in the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 events has been restricted, with limitations that could lead to his entire access being revoked, despite his position as MUO’s Executive Director.

Newly appointed MUO Chief Executive Officer Mario Bucaro has been tasked with investigating corporate and legal actions in response to Nawat’s behavior.

MUO President Raul Rocha expressed his determination to protect the dreams of the contestants, stating, “We will not allow a single person to cause harm and thwart the dreams of so many women who traveled from all over the world to be there.” He confirmed that a delegation led by MUO Chief Executive Officer Mario Bucaro is heading to Thailand to take control of the pageant.

Rocha lamented the “failed trust” with Nawat’s company, Miss Grand International, and his “unfortunate leadership.” He emphasized that over a hundred national directors are ready to support MUO and reiterated his support for the candidates.

“None of you should ever allow incidents like these happen to you in life. We are all the same with different abilities and qualities, but that does not make them superior to anyone else,” Rocha stated. “The values of respect and dignity of women are neither negotiable, and we differ strongly from MGI.”

The MUO president stressed that Miss Universe is a platform for women’s voices to be heard while representing their home countries.

The incident follows a heated exchange between Nawat and Miss Mexico candidate Fatima Bosch, which Rocha described as “public aggression.” Nawat’s actions led to his participation in the upcoming Miss Universe 2025 events being restricted, potentially leading to a complete revocation of his access.

The coronation night of Miss Universe 2025 will be on November 21, where Philippine representative Ahtisa Manalo hopes to win the country’s fifth title. Coincidentally, the last time the Philippines won was in 2018, when Thailand was also the host, with Catriona Gray being crowned Miss Universe 2018.

“I wish from the bottom of my heart may peace reign in what is to come,” Rocha concluded, reaffirming his support for delegates and staff members. – gawcam.com
