#WeatherUpdate Fung-Wong (Uwan)

Severe Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, locally named “Uwan,” is intensifying over the Philippine Sea and approaching the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Expected to make landfall in southern Isabela or northern Aurora late Sunday or early Monday, it’s forecast to become a typhoon within 24 hours and potentially reach super typhoon status. Several areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, with strong winds expected. The storm may bring life-threatening storm surges, coastal flooding, and risky sea conditions. It is projected to weaken but remain a typhoon as it moves over the West Philippine Sea by Monday.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) in Effect

TCWS No. 1 is in effect, indicating a wind threat of strong winds for the following areas:

  • Luzon: The eastern portion of Isabela, the eastern and southern portions of Quirino, the southeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, the southeastern portion of Rizal, the eastern portion of Laguna, the eastern and southern portions of Quezon, including Polillo Islands, Romblon, Marinduque, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands.

The warning lead time is 36 hours. The range of wind speeds expected is 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7). The potential impacts of these winds are minimal to minor threat to life and property.

Typhoon UWAN Intensifies and Enters Philippine Area of Responsibility

As of November 7, 2025, at 10:00 PM, Typhoon UWAN (also known as FUNG-WONG) has intensified and entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. According to Tropical Cyclone Bulletin #2, the center of the typhoon was estimated to be 1,045 km East of Eastern Visayas, located at 12.3°N, 135.0°E.

  • Intensity: The typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, with gustiness reaching up to 150 km/h. The central pressure is recorded at 970 hPa.
